Ghulam Hazrat Wardak is from Chopaan village in Jaghato Wardak. He rose to fame in the 80s when he would sing for raising spirits of the Mujahideen fighting against the Soviets. Due to nature of his target audience, his songs only featured the Rabab or Sarinda and did not include drum-beats. Nevertheless, his songs did not glamorize war or the bravery of its fighters, as is typical with battle-time songs. One of his popular songs "Maat Bangray" is about a maiden who laments the breakage of her bangles which had been gifted by her Mujahed lover.
