An industrialist and a popular personality among the business community, he hails from Sanjavi. He has factories in Faisalabad and is considered an active member of the business community as well as the JUI(F).

He was first elected to the National Assembly on a JUI(F) ticket in 1990. In this election, he defeated Dr Kaleemullah of Pukhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party to win his seat.
