  Installation Steps
   

  1. Download the J2RE Environment. The Total File Size is around 9 MB. And the version you will be downloading is 1.4.0.
  2. After Download, Install the environment. Once installed, you can run other software released by the Khyber Gateway in the future as well as this free Pashto Editor.
  3. Next, download the Pashto Text Editor Installation File. This installation is around 450 Kb and includes the Executable file as well as the relevant images used by the application.
  4. Run the Text Editor Installation Program. All the files will be extracted automatically to your 'C:\Program Files\Pashto Text Editor' Directory.
  5. To Run the Editor, just double click on the file called 'Pashto Editor'.

  Usage Information
   

  1. Documents can be opened/saved in the RTF format so once created, you can open these documents using other packages like Microsoft Word and Wordpad.
  2. Various Pashto fonts (available for free from the Internet) have been included in the archive. All these fonts are in the fonts directory. Before using, you may need to install these fonts first. These Fonts are NOT the property of Khyber Gateway; However since it is not mentioned by their authors anywhere that these fonts can not be redistributed (as of January 2003), therefore I have included them in the installation. A list of them is as such:
     • Pashto Abdali (Afghanan.net)
     • Pashto Preghal (Afghanan.net)
     • Pashto Waziristan (Khpala Pashto)
     • Pokhto (Shirzad.de)
  3. Pashto Keyboard is included in the application for ease of use. The layout is phonetic. (E.g., A for Alif, B for Bay, etc.)

  For Download, Click on http://www.afghanhero.com/khyber/pashtoeditor/pashtofonts.zip. For Installation, please carry the following instructions.
  
  • If you have winzip, Right Click on the Archive File 'PashtoFonts.zip' and extract to location that is suitable for you. If you don't have Winzip, download from their website and then carry on with the procedure.
  • Once you extract the files from the archive, make sure you know where they are.
  • Then go to Start Menu, Point to Settings, and then Click on Control Panel (Start Menu > Settings > Control Panel)
  • There, you will find icon of Fonts. Double click on it. You will get another window with complete list of fonts on your computer.
  • Go to File Menu and Click on Install New Font (File Menu > Install New Font)
  • Choose the Location where you have extracted your fonts. This can be done using the 'Drives' Drop Down Menu and the 'Folders' Tree. Once you get to the location where you extracted your fonts, the list will automatically come in the 'List of Fonts' area.
  • Click on Button Select All and then click on OK. Your fonts will be installed.
  • Then you can go to http://www.khyber.org again and see your changes

• DivX Codec Version 4.12
  This is a Codec used in AVI files with some stunning results. The file size is very small without comprising the quality of the AVI file. Normally, you can compress a complete movie into just about any size you want ranging from 400-700 MB without that much loss of quality. You will be needing this codec for some of the video content on this site that has been encoded using DivX. Please download and once you download, carry on the following instructions to install it.
  • Double Click on Installation File. (Make sure you remember which directory you downloaded it into)
  • You will see License Agreement. Click Next.
  • It will start copying files and will ask you that do you want DivX4 to play all DivX 3.x Content? Click on Yes.
  • After that, Installation is Finished.
